From Ballet Flats to Trainers, These Are the Best Shoes to Wear With Full Skirts This Summer

Knowing which shoes to wear with your chosen outfit is becoming one of fashion’s big conundrums. As a fashion editor, one of my most frequent line of questioning is “what shoes will go well with this outfit” and it’s no wonder why. Styling some pieces is no mean feat and as we’re becoming increasingly aware of the power of styling, we’re paying close attention.

Although skirt trends varied on the SS24 catwalk, one common theme was fullness and subsequently we’re witnessing full skirts dominate retailers as of late—from boho styles to puffball silhouttes. All in all, it’s plenty of drama. However, there’s a balance to strike, so your outfit won’t appear too costume-like but instead, modern and effortless. As a seasoned skirt wearer, figuring out how to style full skirts has been somewhat of a trial and error process but I’ve deduced a few key pointers.

When it comes to full skirts, the less cumbersome the footwear, the better. As the lines demand attention, I see best to pair it with streamlined footwear but there are many types of shoes to fit this description, from trainers with a refined profile, to strappy heels, or rounded ballet flats. If you’re in need of styling inspo, look no further than these four styles of shoe, that pair well with full skirts.

Come July, (weather permitting, of course) minimalist sandals are my go-to for most outfits. When it comes to styling full-skirted looks, a rule-of-thumb I adhere to is fuss-free footwear, and these sandals tick the box.

The juxtaposition of a feminine silhouette with casual footwear makes for a magical pairing. If wearing a white skirt, why not add a contemporary hue, like bugandy, for a touch of colour?
