House of the Dragon Season 2 Trailer Sees No One Winning, Not Even the Dragons

Westeros is at war, and neither side looks like they’ll really win in the latest trailer for House of the Dragon’s second season. In it, we see the two warring factions, respectively represented by Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), ready to get bloody in their quest to hold the iron throne.

The trailer also teases that Rhaenyra’s uncle-husband Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) might not be so gung ho to follow her as the ruler of Westeros, and that Alicent’s children, particularly the one-eyed Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), are more than willing to play dirty to win.

It’s no surprise that things are going to go badly—very, very, badly—for both sides in this violent political struggle that takes place roughly two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones. The cast of characters we all need to keep straight has also increased. In addition to the actors above returning, we’ll see Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans in the upcoming episodes, as well as Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

We’ll also have to keep a whole new slew of characters straight, including Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh Hammer, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

The second season of House of the Dragon premieres on HBO on June 16, 2024, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, and will also be available for streaming on Max.
