Mortal Kombat Sequel Casts Its Kitana and Jade

The Mortal Kombat sequel is moving full steam ahead. In addition to adding Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) to the second film in the franchise helmed by director Simon McQuoid, Kitana and Jade will also be fighting her way in the upcoming movie.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Kitana and Jade will be in the sequel, and that they’ll both be played by alums from Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Adeline Rudolph and Tati Gabrielle (pictured above).

On Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Rudolph and Gabrielle played Agatha Night and Prudence Blackwood, two supernaturally inclined students at the Academy of Unseen Arts. The two characters were friends and also nemeses of sorts to Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka), though Gabrielle’s character became more of a frenemy as the seasons progressed.

In Mortal Kombat 2, Gabrielle and Rudolph will once again be playing characters with close ties to each other. Jade, whose first appearance was in the Mortal Kombat II video game, is a friend of Princess Kitana’s and used her assassin skills to protect her. Gabrielle’s other credits to date include a recurring role on You and, before Sabrina, was on The 100.

Princess Kitana, with her steel folding fans and memorable hairstyle, is arguably one of the best known characters of the franchise. Rudolph’s screen debut was on Sabrina, but she has since gone on to appear in Riverdale as Minerva Marble and co-starred on the now-cancelled Resident Evil series on Netflix. She’s also set to star in the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man adaptation as the “female lead.”

No news yet on the release date for the sequel or what the plot of Mortal Kombat 2 will be, though I bet you a dollar there will be some fighting to the death involved.
