It’s always nice to meet a fellow wellness enthusiast, but it’s even better when that wellness enthusiast is also your aesthetician. Katie Sobelman, my go-to facialist for seriously glowy skin (really, I came out almost sparkling the last time I visited her), doesn’t gatekeep and I appreciate that about her. Sobelman is an organic aesthetician with many cutting-edge treatments, and she has given me so many fantastic wellness and beauty recommendations at this point that I basically forced her to share them with the rest of the world because they’re so good.
Not only did she share a few key beauty and wellness items that she uses and loves, but she also shared a few tips that go far beyond just products for living your best and healthiest life. For all she had to share, keep on scrolling.
Sobelman’s Best Wellness Tips
Sobelman believes that skin health starts with whole-body health. You can use the best skincare in the world, but your skin will be at its most vibrant if you’re taking care of the rest too! That’s why she offers next-level services like a session with her in-studio BioCharger. What’s a BioCharger, you ask?
Sobelman explains, “The BioCharger is a hands-free wellness device that blends four subtle energies to create a powerful cellular treatment. Blending pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF), voltage, light spectrum, and frequency, this machine offers over 1200 unique treatments to address a myriad of concerns, from skin- and health-related conditions to improving physical performance. The BioCharger is the crown jewel of my skincare practice. In my facials, I offer an alternative to injectables by supporting vibrant aging through alternative modalities. Treating the skin is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to aging. I like to offer a more comprehensive treatment that addresses the source of the issue by promoting cellular health. The BioCharger allows clients to increase cellular voltage, activity, and permeability to support and improve the body’s natural biological functions. If you imagine the body and our cells as batteries, our lifestyle and environment can deplete our charge. The BioCharger works to recharge the body so it can function optimally. Pairing cellular therapy with massage and modality in my facials allows for a more comprehensive treatment.”
If you’re in L.A. or Napa, you’ll definitely want to book a session with Sobelman (via her website) and try it out for yourself. I got to experience it and felt so rejuvenated afterward.
In addition to treatments like this, Sobelman has a few more tips. “Obviously, cellular treatments like PEMF are a top priority for improving total-body health and reducing inflammation, but simpler treatments, like daily dry brushing and walking, can also pack a big punch when it comes to improving the health of the body and the skin. Dry brushing helps to boost circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system, which is notoriously sluggish, improving systemic health. Daily walking is another easy-to-incorporate lifestyle improvement with numerous benefits, like lowering cortisol, a stress hormone associated with cellular aging, increasing blood flow, promoting cardiovascular health, and releasing endorphins to boost your mood naturally. I love walking and hiking! I logged nearly 80 miles last month just moving around my neighborhood. Lately, I’ve added wearing a weighted vest to my daily walking to help increase bone density and core strength. It’s a great way to intensify and add additional benefits to something you might already be doing.”
The Organic Esthetician
Bath Brush
Sobelman is a big fan of dry brushing. Although it’s an extra step in your routine, Sobelman can’t say enough good things about it. She said on Instagram, “This simple addition to your daily routine packs a big punch—increasing circulation, stimulating lymphatic drainage, and detoxification, all while gently exfoliating. I start my day with a quick full-body dry brush before getting in the shower and always finish with an application of Iota’s Supercloud Body Serum ($39), a vitamin-rich microbiome supporting treatment that promotes collagen and elastin while protecting against environmental aggressors.”
Sobelman loves this detox tea from Sakara because it features delicious organic herbal ingredients like lemongrass, rose, and rooibos, which support healthy digestion, immune response, and adrenal glands.
We’re both also huge fans of Sakara’s Detox Drops. The star ingredient is chlorophyll, which supports natural detoxification in the body. These drops helped me so much with things like heartburn and acid reflux—they’re both pretty much nonexistent for me now that I take the recommended dose daily.
THORNE
Advanced Digestive Enzymes
Both Sobelman and I are big fans of Thorne’s many formulas. The brand has everything from A+ multivitamins to prebiotics and, of course, these advanced digestive enzymes. I honestly don’t know what I was doing before I started taking digestive enzymes before dinner every day. They help break down larger meals so much and help reduce bloating or any discomfort afterward.
“I buy this in bulk. As someone who no longer has a gallbladder, this stuff is life-changing. It makes eating not hurt (if you know, you know) and optimizes the absorption of essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.” — Sobelman
Tesseract Medical Research
Safecell S-Acetyl Glutathione Supplement for Neuro Health Support, Powerful Antioxidant to Help Neutralize Free Radicals, Hypoallergenic, 300mg, 60 Vegetarian Capsules
Glutathione is all the rage right now, but it’s hard to know which supplements are quality and which aren’t. If you’re interested in trying out this master antioxidant, Sobelman loves this formula from the brand Tesseract Medical Research.
Beam Minerals
Advanced Electrolyte & Micronutrient Support Set
This advanced electrolyte and trace minerals duo from Beam has been a lifesaver for me. Sobelman gave these to me after a facial once, and she told me about the benefits each formula offered. Needless to say, I went out and bought them immediately after. This set provides a full spectrum of electrolytes, trace minerals, micronutrients, B vitamins, and amino acids that support cellular nutrition and detoxification. They also help ease cramps and support a healthy gut microbiome. Since I’ve started taking these, I haven’t had any period cramps—a small miracle that I had to share in case anyone else struggles with them during that time of the month and wants to try this to help.
Dr. Schulze’s
Intestinal Formula #1
“My last can’t-live-without supplement is Dr. Schulze’s Intestinal Formula #1, which I recommend to all my clients in need of a little help when it comes to regularity. This stuff is magic and made from organic and wild-harvested ingredients.” — Sobelman
Omnilux
Omnilux Contour Face Mask
“Microcurrent and LED light therapy are my two all-time favorite wellness treatments for skin health. As long as there are no contraindications, I think everyone should incorporate these treatments into their skincare routine, either weekly at home or monthly with professional treatments. Microcurrent stimulates skin health and improves explicitly the health of muscle and connective tissue. Light therapy enhances skin health, increasing circulation, accelerating healing, and the production of collagen. Both modalities increase cellular energy, optimizing cellular function. Together, these treatments enhance the other, creating sweeping improvements in skin health, tone, and texture.” — Sobelman
Sobelman loves this mask from Omnilux. She once told me, “Omnilux’s Contour Mask is one of the simplest ways to get the benefits of LED at home. It uses a blend of red and infrared light, which is the best combination for increasing collagen and firming the skin while decreasing inflammation. The Contour is made from lightweight silicone and is a wearable device. This means treatments are comfortable and can be integrated into most home activities. (I love to wear this while watching TV or folding laundry.) Plus, each treatment only takes 10 minutes, which means adding the Contour into your skincare routine isn’t a huge time commitment. They also offer a Contour treatment for the neck and décolleté and gloves for the hands.”
As Sobelman mentioned above, she highly recommends modalities like microcurrent. In fact, Sobelman was the one who got me into it. I now religiously use my microcurrent device three to four times a week. Sobelman and I both love Ziip’s microcurrent and nanocurrent device because there are so many customizable treatments that are quick and easy to do via the app. Nanocurrent is also exclusive to Ziip, and it gives your skin a natural glow and promotes cellular health in a big way.
HigherDose
Infrared PEMF Mat Higherdose
Okay, I know this item is incredibly pricey, but if you have the means to splurge, investing in a PEMF mat like this one can be another incredible at-home modality that promotes total-body health.
OneSkin
Oneskin Body Os-01 Peptide Topical Supplement & Skin Longevity Age Reversal Moisturizer, 250 Ml / 8.45 Oz
This is Sobelman’s choice body treatment at the moment. She said on Instagram, “It layers well with my Supercloud Serum, and together, I feel like I’m thoroughly treating the skin of my body as well as I treat the skin on my face.”
Luzern Labs
L’Essentials Hydrating Essence
Sobelman was also the one who introduced me to one of my all-time favorite skincare brands Luzern Labs. We both swear by the brand’s hydrating essence.
“Luzern’s L’Essentials Essence is a tried-and-true staple in my skincare routine. Not only does it hydrate and balance skin pH, but it’s also rich in fermented minerals and antioxidants that support skin health. I would bathe in the Essence if I could.” — Sobelman
Luzern Laboratories
Serum Absolut V15
Yes, this serum is pricey, but it’s the best vitamin C serum I’ve ever used. It’s so hydrating but doesn’t bother my sensitive skin. Not to mention it gives your skin an Edward Cullen–level sparkle.
“I pair [the essence] with their Serum Absolute V15, a fermented 15% l-ascorbic acid serum unlike any other vitamin C serum I’ve tried. This living serum brightens, protects, and boosts collagen production—another must-have item.” — Sobelman
