The latest book series to get tapped for transformation into a TV series is Sebastian de Castell’s Spellslinger series, which begins with a novel of the same name. The six Spellslinger books follow Kellen, “a would-be mage with no magic of his own” according to the publisher’s summary, which goes on to explain:
Spellslinger, the TV series, is being produced by Basset House Distribution and 87Eleven Entertainment, the latter of which is the company of John Wick director Chad Stahelski. It has as showrunner and writer M. Raven Metzner, whose resume as a writer includes one episode each of Star Trek: Discovery and Heroes Reborn, eight episodes of Sleepy Hollow, two of Iron Fist (for which he was also the season two showrunner), and a writing credit for Elektra (yes, the 2005 movie).
According to Variety, the show’s logline says of young mage Kellan, “When his paths cross with a swashbuckling adventurer from a mysterious sect called the Argosi on a mission to stop a continent-wide war, his life, world and family will be turned upside down. Bursting with tricks, traps, magic and a talking squirrel cat!”
No casting or network/streamer involvement has been announced.
