As a beauty journalist, I love the opportunity to try out a product that has rave reviews from actual customers. But as someone who has worked in multiple areas of the beauty industry—including marketing and product formulation—I always take a critical approach to every product I try. I know that lofty claims, buzzword ingredients, and social media virality don’t always equate to a really good product.
