Who’s a Bad Daddy? Aquaman Apparently, According to New Lost Kingdom Trailer

You can now buy tickets to see Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom when it comes out in theaters in December. To celebrate, Warner Bros. put out a trailer that shows none other than Aquaman/Arthur Curry himself (Jason Momoa) trying to be a Best Dad, except for that whole part where his baby gets kidnapped by Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

This latest trailer for the Aquaman sequel sets the stakes clearly: Arthur Curry is now a baby daddy and loses his baby after Black Manta—intent on killing Aquaman at any cost—kidnaps the baby to use his royal blood to open a gateway to the titular lost kingdom. Why does Black Manta want to do that? To free a powerful, demonic king who will then kill Aquaman, of course! The new clip also gives us more of Momoa riding a giant seahorse apparently getting attacked by an octopus, so the movie has that going for it as well.

The voyage to see The Lost Kingdom on the big screen has been a long one for director James Wan, Momoa, and the rest of the cast given all the regime changes over at DC Studios. It looks like after some reshoots and other retooling, however, the movie will finally make its way to our eyeballs, whether we’re ready for it or not.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.

In addition to Momoa and Abdul-Mateen II, the DC film stars Patrick Wilson as Orm, Amber Heard as Mera, and Nicole Kidman as the matriarch, Atlanna.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom swims its way into theaters on December 22, 2023.
